After Israel’s crushing defeat at Ai, you might expect God to lecture Joshua about the failure. Instead, His first words are encouragement: “Do not fear and do not be dismayed.” God knows exactly what His children need to hear after failure – not condemnation, but restoration and renewed purpose.
When we fail, when we fall flat on our faces because we tried to handle life in our own strength, we often expect God to respond with an “I told you so.” But our God is in the business of restoration, not condemnation. He doesn’t kick us while we’re down; He lifts us up and says, “Let’s go again. I’m still with you.”
Notice that God doesn’t just give Joshua a pep talk – He gives him a strategy. God transforms their previous failure into the very foundation for victory. This is what our God does: He takes our self-sufficient mistakes, repackages them, and uses them for our ultimate success.
