God didn’t just provide cities of refuge; He made them accessible. Six cities strategically placed throughout Israel meant no one was more than a day’s journey from safety. Roads were maintained every spring. Bridges were built over rivers. And at every crossroad, signs read “Refuge, Refuge,” pointing the way.
Think about that. God was so concerned with people reaching safety that He commanded infrastructure maintenance and clear signage. This wasn’t an abstract theological concept; it was practical, accessible help for people in desperate need.
You’re running for your life, terrified, exhausted. At every turn, you see those signs: “Refuge, Refuge.” What hope they must have brought! What relief to know the way was clear, the roads maintained, the city within reach!
This is the heart of God. He doesn’t make salvation complicated or distant. He paves the way to the cross. He places signs everywhere in our lives pointing us to Jesus. He removes obstacles. He makes the way accessible.
The gospel isn’t hidden in complex theology or locked behind religious rituals. It’s as accessible as your next breath. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). God has made it clear: Refuge is available. The way is prepared. Christ is near.
