This verse reveals a profound truth about how our spiritual condition affects our perception. When our hearts are pure through faith in Christ, we can engage with a broken world without being corrupted by it. But when our hearts are defiled by unbelief, even good things become twisted.

The pure-hearted person can enjoy God’s creation, engage in honest work, and build meaningful relationships because they see everything through the lens of God’s goodness. The defiled person, however, sees corruption everywhere because that’s what fills their own heart.

This doesn’t mean we become naive about evil or compromise with sin. Rather, it means our identity in Christ allows us to live with freedom and joy even in a fallen world.
