This wasn’t about military strategy. The army had divisions specifically designed to build bridges and ford rivers, with special equipment and amphibious vehicles. But God chose divine presence over human ingenuity. The Ark of the Covenant – representing God’s sovereignty, holiness, justice, and mercy – went before them into the impossible situation.
Ralph Davis noted that “the whole affair is Yahweh’s feet, and the Israelites, though active, are still primarily spectators.” When God goes before you, impossibilities become possibilities. If it’s just you facing that challenge, you’re drowning. But if God has elected to do something, nothing can stop it because He is sovereignly in control over everything.
The same God who parted the Jordan still makes ways where there seems to be no way. The question isn’t whether you have the right strategy or enough resources. The question is whether the living God is going before you.
