"And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, 'Behold, three men are looking for you. Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them."

Acts 10:19-20

The Spirit didn’t explain the vision to Peter. Instead, He gave him his next assignment: “Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation.” No complete explanation, no detailed itinerary, just the next step.

The word “rise” here is the same Greek word used for resurrection. God was calling Peter to a kind of death and resurrection, death to his old way of thinking about who was clean and unclean, and resurrection to a new understanding of God’s inclusive love.

This is often how God works in our lives. We pray for understanding, and He gives us an assignment. We ask for clarity, and He points to the next step of obedience. We want to know the destination, and He simply says, “Follow Me.”

The beautiful truth is that clarity often comes through obedience, not before it. As Peter took this step, inviting these Gentile messengers into his house, he began to understand what God was doing. But the understanding came after the obedience, not before.

What step of obedience has God been asking you to take? Perhaps it’s initiating a difficult conversation, extending forgiveness, serving in a new way, or reaching out to someone outside your normal circle. The Spirit is saying the same thing to you that He said to Peter: “Rise… without hesitation, for I have sent them.”

Today's Challenge

What is one specific step of obedience that God has been prompting you to take? What's holding you back from taking that step today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the example of Your perfect obedience, even unto death. Help me to follow in Your footsteps by taking the next step You've shown me, even when I don't understand the full plan. Give me the courage to obey without hesitation, trusting that You will provide clarity as I walk in faith. In Your name, Amen.
