Learning on The Way

How does God’s faithfulness in the past inform your trust in Him now? When do you fail to trust Him even though He has proven faithful over and over in your life? Why do you think that is?

Do you look to Jesus in every situation in life (remembering what He has accomplished at the cross and resurrection on your behalf and remember your hope is in Him alone)? Or, do you find yourself looking to your own works or accomplishments and find hope in them? Why would we look to ourselves instead of Jesus when we sin or face difficult situations? How can we be sure we turn our gaze to Jesus in those times?

Share some times recently when you failed in evangelism and discipleship. Share some times where you succeeded in evangelism and discipleship. If you have nothing to share either way, why is that?

How does our knowing God relate to loving God? How does loving God relate to serving Him? How does an attempt to serve God without knowing and loving Him become legalistic? Share a time when your service to God wasn’t connected to knowing Him and loving Him? What was your experience like in those times. Were you anxious, burdened, or burned out? Now think about the times your service to God flowed from your love towards Him. What are the differences?

Does your hope in Jesus as King over His covenant people and His return to make all things new motivate you to service or passivity (not doing anything)? What about that Hope prompts you to serve Him (or should prompt you to serve Him)?
