Daily Devotional

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

1 Peter 2:9

For those who have received the great light, the call does not stop at personal repentance. Jesus’ light is not meant to be hoarded. It is meant to be shared. The same God who transferred you from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light now calls you to be a light-bearer for others who are still sitting in the dark.

Think about what the sermon described: some people have been so consumed by the darkness that they have never experienced what the light even looks like. They do not know there is something beyond the shadow. They are distracted by entertainment, numbed by comfort, deceived by the false promises of a world that has nothing eternal to offer. And they need someone to hold the spotlight for them.

This is not primarily about having the right arguments or mastering an evangelistic technique. It is about a life that is visibly different. When you walk in the light, when your life is marked by peace, joy, forgiveness, generosity, and hope in the midst of difficulty, people notice. They may not be able to articulate what is different about you, but they can see it. And that visible difference opens doors for the gospel that no argument ever could.

Remember the pattern of this passage: Jesus did not begin His ministry in the religious capital. He went to the margins. He went to the overlooked and the despised. In the same way, the light of Christ in you is not primarily for the people who already have it. It is for the coworker who is quietly falling apart. It is for the neighbor who puts on a brave face. It is for the family member who has heard about God but never seen Him demonstrated in a life that looks like Jesus.

As you close this week’s devotional, ask yourself: am I walking in the light? And am I sharing it? The call of the gospel is to repent, to turn from sin, to turn to Christ, and then to turn toward others with the same grace that was shown to you.

Today's Challenge

Who in your life needs you to hold the spotlight for them right now? What is one practical step you can take today to share the light of Christ with someone who is still sitting in darkness?

Prayer

Father, You called me out of darkness into Your marvelous light, not so I could keep it to myself, but so I could proclaim Your excellencies to others. Forgive me for the times I have hoarded Your light or been too afraid to share it. Give me eyes to see the people around me who are still in darkness. Give me courage to hold the spotlight for them. Help me to live in such a way that the light of Christ is visible in everything I do: at home, at work, in my neighborhood, and in my church. Use me this week to bring someone one step closer to the great light. In the name of Jesus, the light of the world, Amen.
