"And as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped into the brink of the water...the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap."
Joshua 3:15-16
The water didn’t part until the priests stepped in. Can you imagine being one of those priests, carrying the Ark and walking toward a raging river? “Is it going to stop now? Is it going to stop now?” But they kept taking the next step, and when their feet got wet, all those waters stopped like a wall.
This is the language of faith – taking the next step of obedience even when you can’t see the outcome. The priests couldn’t control whether the water would stop, but they could control their steps of obedience. Sometimes the best approach to dealing with our fear is simply taking the next step of obedience.
God doesn’t promise to give us grace five hours or five minutes ahead. He promises to give us mercy and grace to help us in our time of need. But that grace comes when we step into the need, not while we’re standing safely on the shore wondering what might happen.
Today's Challenge
What step of obedience is God asking you to take right now, even though you can't see how things will work out? What would it look like to get your "feet wet" in faith this week?
Prayer
Father, give me courage to take the next step of obedience You're calling me to, even when I can't see the outcome. Help me trust that You will provide the grace I need when I need it, not before. I don't want to spend my life standing on the shore of possibility; I want to step into the waters of faith. In Jesus' name, Amen.
