Why do you think we are so prone to legalism? What makes us desire to bring about spiritual maturity in our own strength? Why are we often more concerned with keeping up appearances than we are with God changing our hearts through Christ by the Holy Spirit?
What are some ways we place our hope in Christian activities but not Christ? What’s the difference? What are some dangers of seeking Christian maturity in Christian activities instead of Christ?
What are some qualifications for maturity that we impose upon ourselves or others? Complete this sentence: “A person is truly a mature Christian when they do…” What standard do you base those qualifications on?
List some of the things you do in your own strength to stop the indulgence of the flesh. Have you found that there is value in those things (do they really prevent you from living a fleshy/unspiritual life)?
